Another Great CCGTCC Convention

The 2005 Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club Convention at the Riviera in Las Vegas came to a close yesterday, and this morning security screeners at McCarran Airport are scratching their heads over the tens of thousands of small clay and metal disks passing through their baggage x-ray machines.

Over the course of the three days that the convention floor was open, several thousand visitors poured through the doors and stopped to gawk at tables piled high with more casino chips than most had ever seen before. But, even before the doors officially opened, hardcore chip collectors began streaming into Las Vegas, some as early as several weeks ago. Friendships with other collectors were formed and renewed, stories exchanged and chips, silver strikes, slotcards, room keys and every other kind of casino collectible imagineable were traded.

I enjoyed this convention even more than previous ones due to the fact that I spent more time on volunteer efforts this year. I worked pre-registration, the membership table and the Building Fund Table over the course of the week, and the time spent at each of those posts was extremely enjoyable. While browsing thousands of chips is what I dream about all year, the time spent with the people who love this hobby as much as I do is what really makes the convention so special.
